Experimenting with a failed silicone pour



This goes in my collection of weird stuff in specimen jars.

Actually no-- this was the overpour. I poured it into my brain mold.

As it turns out, your mold evidently had clay in it, either left over from the sculpt or used as a release, and it retarded the cure; some oil-based clays keep silicone from curing properly. I had to clean it out with paint thinner to dissolve the old clay. I'll be trying it again after it's completely dry and free of clay.

I also had to patch some holes that were in it. I backed up the sculpt from the inside and poured new plaster over it to beef it up a bit. It didn't change the actual sculpt, just patched it.

The first pull was a bust; it might be usable, but it's ugly. :)

The second one should be a lot better.
