It got cold enough in the kitchen that the pipes to and from the dishwasher froze. I had to thaw them with a space heater.

Only about -3. It's the way that they remodeled the kitchen where the windows extend below the counter, combined with no radiator in the kitchen.

Damn! That sounds awful! Is the boiler out of commission?

No, the boiler is fine. I don't have a radiator in the kitchen, and the remodel they did has the windows extending below the counter. The cold seeps in and hides under the sink.

Don't have the cash to fix it right now.

Some idiot took the registers out of the dining room/kitchen and bathroom when they remodeled this place.

Combine that with a "clicky" gas stove (no always-on pilot light to keep the kitchen warm), and cold tile floors in the bathroom...I can ALWAYS tell when the outside temperature falls below zero.

It bothers me when people don't understand household physics.

I presume that was the logic (or lack thereof)...

Well, it would probably cut down on the gas bill too.

I had to take the radiator out of the kitchen because it was cracked and leaking badly-- like a big-ass puddle on the kitchen floor when I tried to fill the system the first time.

It's a condo...the heat is communal...

Some people shouldn't be allowed to direct decorating/remodeling projects.

And on second look, the boiler wasn't firing. Damper control this time.

At least I know enough about how the system works to be able to diagnose and fix the problems. Oy!

Too true! It would be quite costly to call a repair man every time that happens, based on the posts you've made about it!

Yes... well, as it turns out, the boiler wasn't firing, and you made me think about it. Something different this time-- the damper.

And yes, I know how to fix it, but I wouldn't have checked.
