Barb came through in spades: as of yesterday, the house title is oficially in our names, though there is some paperwork delay before it gets updated on the website and all. Still, as it turns out the title company had some major legal issues, changed their business name to avoid collections from some severely dissatisfied customers (including their legal wranglers whom they still owe tens of thousands of dollars and are apparently still using their escrow number) and a homeowner-- kinda-- who has a multi-hundred-thousand dollar loan out on a property with no title to show, no paperwork having ever been filed and no copies existing anywhere) and finally disappeared off the face of the map with nary a bang but a whimper. I think we got off lucky.

So it's a bit of relief.

I'm now going to nap for a bit, because I can.
