4th and goal

If all goes well, I will finish the postproduction stuff on the movie this weekend. That might be a little premature since I know that I've got a couple of big scenes to do that I haven't even really looked at yet, and I still have a final review and fix phase to go through (involves burning a DVD and watching scenes more-or-less in sequence), but it's that close. Once I'm satisfied with how it looks, I hand off the files to Fearless Leader who will then do the final assembly and mix with the final music, then he hands the final mix back to me for the last film-look phase. I might be able to shortcut this last phase-- I have to do some testing on field-to-frame conversion methods.

Then it's DVD authoring time.

Eventually, I'd like to do some commentary tracks, add the blooper reel and some behind-the-scenes footage, production stills, stuff like that... but for now, getting the movie completed and in show shape is the huge freaking goal.

And after that, I want to take some downtime.

Of course I've managed to commit myself to helping out a friend with her fringe show, which should be assembling sound effects and music on a CD (a cakewalk compared to this last epic journey), and I may be helping out on another project for Convergence. And there is the porch construction which has been at a standstill for over a month and really needs to be kicked back into gear, and the refinancing stuff that's hopefully still happening as I've been collecting paperwork on the fly. And the lawn work that I need to do, what with the mowing and the weed whacking and the watering the neighbor's plants and such.

I really, really need to play. I need a massage, BITF, some time spent blowing shit up (i.e. gaming-- a HALO LAN party would kick ass), and some quality time with friends. I'd like to take the dog swimming. I'd like to go for a bike ride (which means getting a new bike that actually fits me). I'd like to spend some time grazing into the veldt of a sweet young Canadian film starlet and getting my albino stompled, but chances are slim.

It's kind of fun that only some people get it. :)

actually...
I'm thrilled ANYBODY gets it. The man was a genius, but then he got a conscience & just wasn't as funny anymore- sigh....

My favourite was always Milo. I liked Opus, but I always wanted more of the other stuff.

I just think of the Rosebud, the basselope, auditioning for the band. "I've got my spandex trousers."

Career's tanked that badly, eh?

Well, you may have to put out, but I'll ask the coffee girl.

I'm glad I took the time away from THE MOVIE, as I'm actually becoming a little stoked to work on it for the final push.

Upon receiving the files from you:

1. Re-assemble the film. Since this means rebuilding scenes by moving in the CC'd / ADR'd versions to replace the current versions, expect one week.

2. Create end-credits. My god, I'd love to hand these off...but to who? Expect a day.

3. Get final version of score from Conradzero, add to timeline, mix. Two days.

4. Render final version of the film as an AVI. A day. Not because it takes that long (okay, it does take a couple of hours) but because I'm sure something will go wrong.

5. Review final version. Assume that there will be glitches (ah, Adobe...), and fix and re-render. Another day.

6. Provide final AVI to you to for final film-look post.

7. Get file back in a day.

8. Schedule "Two Drink Minimum" commentary track session with actors. (Aside: Any chance of doing this at the NerdCave? I'm thinking grill out, booze, and finally watching the film downstairs and recording comments there.) 1 day to schedule, 1 weekend evening to record.

9. Record director's commentary. (See above.) 1 day.

10. Assemble DVD. One week.

11. Enjoy a milkbone in a Communist-free world.

Soooo..from the time you get this to me we're talking 3 weeks.

And, oh, yeah, did I mention that I spaced contact CONvergence people to SHOW THIS?

At least we have a room this time. If worst comes to worst we can show it there.

If you give me the credits text and a timeframe, I can manage that piece pretty easily.

I'm thinking we can skip the commentary on the show DVD, but we should have it for a release/sale DVD-- along with bloopers, behind-the scenes (remember the tent in the garage?) and I need to pull some effects before-and-after footage for my own reel, it couldn't hurt to have it on the DVD.

Well, getting a simple show DVD done is no biggie. But I want to get the rest of those pieces knocked out ASAP, as I don't want this on my plate by July.

As for the credits, well, it's not the technical side of them that I find bothersome; it's assembling the huge frigging list. We're looking at something like six MINUTES of credits here.

Gawrsh, I don't know who you could farm that out to. You're the one with the information (all the names and such) and all the special thanks to folks.

If you wanna hand me off blooper/behind-the-scenes footage, I'll assemble those pieces.

As for recording commentary-- it would be hella easier to do it at the Big Broken Box™ in the ADR lounge. To do it at su casa would mean me yanking equipment from the rack and hauling the mixer, none of which is overly portable.

I might be able to strip it back to just the DAT recorder, mic preamp, and a couple of microphones, but that's still a PITA.
