What is this cleaning of which you speak?

1. What housekeeping chore(s) do you hate doing the most?
Pretty much all of them. I hate dusting. And shoveling sucks.

2. Are there any that you like or don't mind doing?
Laundry is pretty much okay. Oddly enough, I like watching the washing machine fill and start the agitation process.

3. Do you have a routine throughout the week or just clean as it's needed?
It's more of a when-absolutely-necessary thing. Like if we lose one of the pets or something.

4. Do you have any odd cleaning/housekeeping quirks or rules?
Top to bottom, especially in the bathroom.

5. What was the last thing you cleaned?

A lot of guys I know like the laundry because it's not really a judgment call. When you run out of clean clothes or the hampers get full, you do the laundry. Same with the dishes.

Deciding the point where the bathroom goes from clean to not clean varies from person to person. This is why I pay someone to come and clean them so I don't have to worry about it.

I've discovered a vast difference between "boy-clean" and "girl-clean" -- I don't think men are trained like women are to pay attention to minute details (like whiskers in the tile grout, or hard water stains on the tub), and therefore think if it isn't crawling with tropical pond scum, it's clean.

When instructing my boyfriend when he helps clean, I always stipulate "girl-clean."

The newspaper columnist Dave Barry said that men can't see dirt until it will support commercial agriculture.

I used to work for Servicemaster while in college, and my long-term job was cleaning the bathrooms in a clinic. So I got to learn "doctor-clean". And you'd be surprised how quickly you can clean a bathroom when you have to. The biggest PITA is all the *stuff* that you have on shelves, the top of the toilet tank, the sink, etc.

And you can't be afraid to get dirty.

OTOH, our downstairs bathroom is a disaster. Somewhere along the line it was decided that painting over wallpaper was a good idea, and now all of the wallpaper is peeling off in chunks v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. And when they had to do some work where they smashed holes in the walls, they decided to put up wood wainscotting, which is ugly and stains like a sonofabitch.

A bathroom remodel is in the cards, but awaits funding.
