I've had this movie recommended to me, but I had forgotten why. I had assumed it was because it was a sexy lesbian movie that my sexy lesbian friend liked.
Turns out it's a really damn good movie.
And it was directed by the Wachowski brothers. In 1996. That's pre-Matrix. Their first feature as directors, their second as writers. Their next film was of course The Matrix in 1999. And after a slough of Matrix sequels and subsequels, there was V for Vendetta.
Currently they're doing Speed Racer.
I'm torn. A live-action Speed Racer just sounds silly to me, as silly as Thunderbirds are Go! (directed by Frakes? Dear ghod), and I'm torn.
I want to believe.
And Frakes is an actor in Castlevania, being shot this year. Written & Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who helmed such gems as Alien vs. Predator and Event Horizon. About the best that can be said is that he's not Uwe Boll.
And speaking of Uncle Uwe, just announced is his next movie after Far Cry: Alone in the Dark II.
The happy news is that both of these films are being directed by someone else, believe it or not: the team of Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer... who were most unfortunately the (final) writers of Alone in the Dark, and apparently House of the Dead II, which I won't even bother linking since it's going direct to the Sci-Fi channel and then DVD. The sole review that I saw wasn't pretty.
(shudder.)
Okay, they did direct Brotherhood of Blood in 2007. Well technically they directed it in 2005, but it's hopefully getting release in 2007. There have been some... delays in postproduction.
It's just not hopeful at all.
