Oy.

Went for my semi-annual checkup today.

Normally, these are pretty much in-and-out, but today was not. Remember back around Omegacon time, when I had Strep twice in succession? Ever since then I've been kinda sickish, and haven't really cleared up completely. It pulled me off the bike because I was having problems breathing while exercising, and I got dizzy enough that I nearly fell off.

Well, when you mention "problems breathing" to your doctor, his ears perk up.

I've been pretty much used to the whole snot-and-coughing thing being the norm, figuring that between pets and pollen, it's a foregone conclusion that I'm gonna have problems with breathing.

What I didn't count on was that the shortness of breath/dizziness thing doesn't really jive with allergy/snot stuff. Essentially I should be able to breathe through my mouth enough that it shouldn't be a problem. The dizziness is not a good sign.

Suddenly I find myself in this new category of hyperawareness. Joint pain? check. Incresed blood pressure, higher cholesterol, check. Some other things, check. In the end, what should have been a 15-minute checkup went well over an hour, and resulted in an additional blood draw.

So there is some cause for concern. And this afternoon, I go in for an echocardiogram.

Possible but unlikely: rheumatic fever.

As you might think, my mental state right now isn't exactly calm. I'm going in at 1:30 to prep, and I'm going home afterwards. I've already decided to take a personal day at work today, because I'm really not much good here.
