It's been a long time since I can remember a really good horror film. Alien is probably my fave, but the latest crop of what passes for horror seems to me to be little more than popcorn-fueled junk food. It's like going to one of the "raar" haunted houses over Halloween-- the kind where around every corner is a dude in a mask who jumps out and yells "raar". Or chainsaws... fucking chainsaws. Chainsaws aren't scary, they're loud and irritating. Scary is being alone in a dark room when a voice out of nowhere whispers your name, inches from your ear. Scary is a shadowy figure that's creeping just beyond the edge of your vision. Scary is the sound of something not quite human walking down the hallway toward you, and you're out of bullets.
Maybe I'm just jaded, but I'm craving something that I'm not getting.
