Potter Patter
I am reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows slowly, as opposed to the race-to-the-end that the rest of the readers seem to be doing. I know that in many instances it's a race against spoilers, but evidently I'm a bit freakish in that I like to read at a leisurely pace, and I don't really take it as an event. It's a book.
That being said, unless I've missed the mark, BIG telegraphing of the end in the first few chapters. I could be wrong, but jeez.
Dealing Death
Playing a videogame called Hitman: Blood Money. In this game, you play a professional assassin given various targets that you must kill before advancing onto the next level (more of a chapter than a level, but I digress). The structure of the game is inherently nonlinear, in that you are given a series of goals to accomplish, but the order and manner in which you accomplish those goals is completely open. And it changes every time you try the level; the AI for the characters is impressive. For instance, if one of the bad guys gets a shot off at you, the cops hear it and come running, and will likely shoot you.
I've been stuck on the Murder of Crows level for quite a while. In this level, you have three targets, and they interact. Dozens of hyperaware cops. Placed in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. I finally got to the point where I had nailed the three targets without being identified, collected the diamonds, and headed toward the level exit, and for some reason couldn't exit. I had accomplished all of the goals, but for some reason couldn't exit. Frustrating.
Morphean Musings
Dream last night where I was in the basement of my recurring dream house, and the basement was flooding. I was checking it out when I realized that it was flooding so fast that I wouldn't be able to make it to the stairway to get back upstairs before I was underwater. The secret passage/tunnel in the floor was flooded as well. I did manage to escape before I drowned, and once I was on the ground and outside, I recognized that there were a number of security cameras around the place.
Biggest lead on this is probably the upcoming sleep apnea study.
Also had a bit of a dream where I had to come up with a reality show, and I thought "hey, why don't we take a bunch of young women who have trained for helping out in hospitals and "accidentally" get them in to a hospital for the incurably criminally insane?
Heh.
House Hoopla
Did some shopping at 'Nards yesterday, pricing out some of the things that I need. I missed out on a couple of things because I didn't have some of the measurements with me. D'oh!
Found some cool doors though. Standard, in stock, and cheaper than the oooh-googly model doors that they have on display. I still need to go to Building Materials Outlet, probably this Saturday, and see what I can find in the way of French patio doors.
And of course, work up materials estimates for finishing the porch and kitchen and all.
