Nice guy! Your descendent, Nathaniel Hawthorne
(author of "The House of the Seven
Gables" and "The Scarlet
Letter") added the "W" to his
name, to disassociate himself from your part in
history.
You can be found in Burying Point, aka the Charter
Street Cemetery, in Salem, Mass.

1. What was your first Halloween costume?
My parents used to dress me up as something called the "black ghost".

2. What was your best costume and why?
I can think of three memorable ones:
1.) Darth Vader costume, 1981. Scared the crap out of some college girls, and I had a special tube run down the inside of the helmet and down my arm so I could drink just by holding a beer.
2.) Sinbad. Barb made the costume, me as a djinn, with my skin painted completely gold with gold hair spray. I actually won a "best costume" award for that one.
What they don't tell you is that the gold in the hair spray is actually powdered brass, and when it is in contact with your skin for a long time, it turns your skin a nice bluish-green.
3.) Two years ago, we went to a halloween party. I threw together a zombie executioner costume which kicked ass. I painted my face like a skull underneath the mask, so when you could actually see my face, it was spooky.

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat?
Nope. Never had to.

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions?
Every year, I try and do an annual "haunt crawl" where we hit as many haunted houses as possible.
Also, I really enjoy decorating the house for halloween, but the past couple of years have been a no-go. I think a lot of it has to do with the very tiny number of kids that come to the house, so I've been wantng to turn that energy into something larger, like designing a more professional haunt.
