whoops

So like I thought my yogurt tasted a little funny. Figured that since it was a different brand, it was just a different flavor.

Notice anything suspicious?

I didn't start eating yougurt until January of this year. I either got this at the store way outdated, or somehow it managed to find its way into my refrigerator-- I suspect a well-meaning but not-too-hip-on-expiration-dates mother.

I haven't been eating yogurt for that long-- it's only been since January of this year. Somehow this one made it through the cracks.

It says something about modern preservatives that it could be this old and not be immediately, obviously vile the moment you opened the container. I'm not sure that's a good thing, I'm just pointing it out.

I'd agree, particularly since we're talking live-culture yogurt here. It could have gone really, really badly.

Two years and a couple months. That's also the difference between a less-than-sixteen-year-old and an eighteen-year-old. One is significantly more dangerous than the other.

Ewwwww!

I've eaten yogurt that was a couple months past its expiration and that was fine. This is pushing it.

Not to worry. I've had little-used condiments in my fridge hit the 2 year mark. But being little-used, I checked the date first.

My grandmother had a small bottle of macadamia nuts from the Barbados (or was it Jamaica?) in her refrigerator for more than 10 years. I finally convinced her to throw them out when they were nearly crumbled to dust.

2 years is nothin'. Just as long as you don't end up with some strange, incurable live culture, yogurt-based food poisoning. That would be very bad.

It just brings the trailer for Night of the Yogurt back into my mind.
