Talk about fair and balanced...

Weird day, death abounds.

Last night, cajones came over to the hotel to wallow in the hot tub and stay in the spare bed. Bit o' happiness when chebutykin was able to make it as well, and we ended up having a rather subdued little slumber party.

This morning was a relatively early call to make it to the funeral home for the service. It was a nice place as funeral homes go. The cathedral looked more like a theater, and cheb and I geeked out a but and traded a few observations on adding a surround sound system to make it pretty. I also had a tough call when one of the stuffed monkeys was put on display-- it had a rather large banana in an unfortunate place that made it look rather phallic, and one of the girls mentioned that she thought it would be better if he were eating the banana. I was having to bite my lip to keep from laughing.

Chris was handling things pretty well, dealing with a lot of people. Peter and Emily showed up as well as cheb's dad, and the ceremony itself was thankfully relatively short. It was pretty standard fare, and there was a palpable sense of sadness in the room (well what do you expect at a funeral?).

Afterwards there was a lunch, and I was highly amused in noticing that the food was very reminiscent of lutheran church food. Cole slaw and Au Gratin potatoes with ham, and no pepper anywhere to be seen.

Up through the dinner, I know that pretty much the entire week had been pretty structured and moving relatively fast for Chris. Now that it's over, there is still a lot of stuff that needs to be done, but there is the room for emotional stuff to creep in, and I hope he'll be okay. I left him at the funeral home in the capable hands of cheb, but I don't know when she has to go back. I haven't had a call from him yet, so I assume things are going okay, as I told him to call me if he needs anything or if he wants to stay another night in the hotel.

I go back home tomorrow, and I'm just drained. All I want to do is cuddle with my pup and sleep, but I have to load up the truck for a shoot this weekend, and it's a big shoot with all the lights and equipment.

Jobhunt news: got a potential offer for a six-month job today, in Philadelphia. I gave her a big number for an hourly rate. Enough that I would be making what I'm currently making and be able to pay for a decent apartment and utilities. Thing is that I have experience in a particular piece of software that they haven't been able to find in anyone else, so they may actually be willing to pony up the dough. It's mercenary, but that is my life currently.

I don't really want to go to Philadelphia for a job, but the alternatives aren't looking really good.
I'm beat. I'm gonna cut out early and go back to the hotel. Maybe get a haircut, maybe not.
Anybody been to pittsburgh?
