house progress

First of all, huge thanks to saveau who came over and muscled many hundreds of pounds of bricks into submission. Read more...Collapse )
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth full sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around for the coolest book you can find. Use what's actually nearest to you.

Move up and kneel facing your partner's hara. With one hand on top of the other, rock the hara with a wavelike motion, pushing with the heel of your hand and pulling toward you with the fingertips in one continuous movement.

Heh.

Knowing me, what does this book sound like? It's definitely a book on techniques, and no fair looking up hara.

Of course, before I can really get back into practice, I need to have a clear location. One dedicated room, or at least a room that is clear enough to set up the table would be good, as well as a decently clean and presentable house.

And of course, guinea pigs.

Prison Release Party update

The Prison Release Party that was originally scheduled for this coming friday is on hold. The house is verily kicking my ass and there is no way it will be in any shape for decadence and debauchery by then. My alternate plan of finding a hotel with party-ish facilities and a hot tub turned into a bust as well, since apparently other people had similar ideas and better planning skills.

So the current idea is to postpone the party until sometime later in the year when there can be more of a housewarming theme. This is looking more like fall than anytime in the near future, but it will be determined by how events shape up altogether.

In the meantime, I'm not opposed to other avenues of decadence and debauchery and hot tubbing.
In a rare show of optimism, I decided that since the sun was starting to come out this afternoon, I would head to Menards for materials to build a rear deck.
Long versionCollapse )
While I was out in the lumberyard picking lumber, it rained. Enough that I got drenched. So figuring I couldn't get any wetter, I just continued to pick lumber. And just as I finished, it stopped.

On a good note, it means I have enough lumber to build the deck. And I am merely wet.

Tomorrow, me Mum is coming down for a visit. She is in town for her work and has a few extra minutes. I'm hoping it's rain-free enough that I can work in the yard and get the dingo out and till & level the entire backyard in one swell foop. I noticed that Menards has seed mats now, so instead of sod, you roll out a mat on the fresh dirt and water it. Instant grass, and a buttload cheaper than sod.

I will have a nice backyard, dammit.

Rains = Pours

So I'm taking more stuff down to the basement for storage, and I remember that I had a load of laundry that needed to be transferred to the dryer. I open up the lid of the washer, and whoops... it's full of dirty water.
Mr. Fixit to the rescueCollapse )

This washing machine has been in the basement for ten years now. Bought used from Warner's Stellian, this is now the third time I've had to fix it, and I think I've spent a total of $24.00 in parts (I bought a new wigwag for it a few years ago). I think I've had my money's worth out of it.

Now there is another issue having to do with the amount of laundry that awaits washing. The laundry room is about 2/3 full of things awaiting washing. And probably some things that cannot be washed, I haven't dared look yet.

Somebody remind me of this should I become complacent.

It is days like this that make me wish I had an elevator.

And then I start thinking of what it would take to make one...
