Yah-- I'm up late again, drowning in thoughts of projects to come. I need to get grounded on the projects I'm doing right now, but there's a whole lot of nifty problem-solving that has to happen. Today, it's been zombie eyes. Some of the zombie effects will be animatronic puppets, and I've been researching how to best handle the eyes and other facial movements. It's the kind of thing that you'd think the internet would be perfect for.
Truth is, there's not a lot of information on making realistic humanoid puppet effects online. Or rather the quality of information that is available is of questionable pertinence.
I have learned how to make realistic human eyes out of acrylic and epoxy.
I have seen pictures of several eye mechanisms. Most of them look either flimsy and tacked together or machined and overbuilt. What I see in my mind is a lot like a ball held captive by some sort of ring, and as I move my trackball, I wonder why the idea seems so familiar.
See, I have the logitech MouseMan. It's basically a thumb-driven mousewheel, and the ball is about the diameter of a human eye...

I need to play with molding.

But first, a new boiler. And installing the dishwasher. Making a dolly. Fixing a roof.
