I had to pee in a cup today. Part of the preliminary stuff for this job in Des Moines is a drug test and a background check. I find the whole process distasteful at best-- kind of like an attitude check where the business is saying "we like your resume and references and we want you to work here, but we want you to prove that you're not a criminal first". It makes me feel adversarial from the beginning, and it's not really the way that I want to start a project. On the way back to the parking ramp, I walked by a bookstore. In the window was "Pattern Recognition" by William Gibson. I spun to walk in the revolving door, and managed to rather painfully twist my knee, which proceeded to swell. Undaunted, I made it out with less than 40 pounds of books and a limp. Smackdown tired right now. Gonna finish LJ and go nap.
