The work that I've been doing here in Iowa is a part of a larger project. A significant part of that work has been outsourced to a company in Belarus, primarily because it was cheaper.
Well, it turned out that it wasn't cheaper after all.
They are now pulling all of the development back into the local market, which means they will be hiring a bunch of new contractors.
It's all C++ embedded work with a knowledge of UML, OOD, VxWorks being a plus.
I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. On one hand, I'm happy about the pulling back of outsourcing in the general sense, but on the other I am queasy whenever there is "termination" mentioned. Also the bottom-line driven decisions of the corporate culture bring me anger and frustration.
I believe that people are more important than profit. Perhaps that puts me at a disadvantage in the "real" world, but I'm okay with that. It's one of the reasons that the voice of corporate america calling me has turned into the screeching of a harpy.
I would like to find a group of like-minded people who can work together to create something unique and powerful, and who can find a way to make a comfortable living doing that.
