John Deere Tractor Gets Time in the Spotlight

</i>July 30 - When a disabled Formula 1 car needed a lift at the German Grand Prix last Sunday, July 25, it got one - literally - from a John Deere 5020 series tractor.

The car, driven by Kimi Räikkönen, a 22-year-old Finn who races for the McLaren Mercedes team, spun out of control when it lost part of its fin in the 14th lap of the Formula 1 race in Hockenheim, Germany. The rescue of Räikkönen's mangled vehicle got prime time coverage, giving the John Deere tractor maximum visibility.

The rescue of Räikkönen's mangled vehicle got prime time coverage, giving the John Deere tractor maximum visibility. "It was one of those precious moments, where our equipment gets a fair amount of exposure, not only to the spectators of the race, but also on TV," said Karl-Heinz Berg. Berg, a mechanic at John Deere Werke Mannheim who assisted in procuring the John Deere equipment for the race.

The tractor, manufactured at John Deere Werke Mannheim, was outfitted with a front loader made at John Deere Arc-les-Gray. John Deere Werke Mannheim has supplied tractors, telescopic handlers, and other equipment to the organizers of the race for a number of years. This year, as many as 19 pieces of John Deere equipment supported the race. </i>
