1. Total number of books owned?
Okay, this is tough because I'm giving away most of the books to Barb. I don't have an exact count, but I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 300. That number will be a lot smaller in the relatively near future.
2. The last book I bought?
Hmm... Some paperback while grocery shopping in Des Moines. Probably The Codex. Couldn't tell you who the author is. So far it's not exceptional.
3. The last book I read?
Currently reading The Codex as a pooping book. Last book read was a Patricia Cornwell novel, unless you count tech manuals.
(And if you don't understand the concept of a pooping book, you're probably a woman.)
4. 5 books that mean a lot to me?
By mean a lot to me, I'll take that as books that I like and have read or would read multiple times.
1.) Neuromancer (William Gibson)
2.) When Gravity Fails (George Alec Effinger)
3.) Snow Crash (Neil Stephenson)
4.) Cryptonomicon (Neil Stephenson)
5a.) House of Leaves (Mark Z. Danielewski)
5b.) Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card)
There are a lot of others that I like. I went through the Thomas Covenant series a bunch of times (Lord Foul's Bane, etc.), many by Isaac Asimov and Larry Niven, Stephen King (as much as I don't particularly like his writing style), Dan Brown, J. K. Rowling, and others that I can't think of right now. Those five-ish are probably the ones that I like the most out of the fiction books that I have, and Neuromancer tops the list because it is the first book that I ever read from cover to cover without realizing it. Three times.
5. Tag 5 people and have them fill this out on their LJs:
Do it if you want to.
