It's skirt weather, which is making my something-or-other a bit more
attentive, or perhaps I'm just more distracted than usual. I have
actually left my cup in the microwave twice today already. I'm claiming
it's because I'm so focused on the job at hand that I'm a little
absent-minded.
Well, there is some truth to that. I do tend to get absorbed, and this
is a whopping lot of very detailed analysis at the source code level so
I'm doing both a top-down and a bottom-up architecture analysis
simultaneously. I need to own this code, and pretty damn quick. It's
about 10,000-plus lines of mixed C, C++, and assembly, written to three
multithreaded operating systems that I have no documentation for, and I
have about a week to do it. Let's just say it's a bit daunting.
This weekend is Memorial Day, so Monday is off work. I'm hoping that the
weather will be good enough that I can do the complete deck and have it
finished and sealed by Monday. I have some steaks and brats and stuff
that would be good to grill too. Hell, if I had more time, I could even
have a pinnickinnick. I have a pinninckinnick table, it needs to be
cleaned and resurfaced, but I have the technology to do that kind of
thing, and while I'm doing the deck, I could easily do the pinnickinnick
table and benches.
Probably too soon though. I doubt if I can be completely ready by then,
and as nice as it would be to have folks over, I'd rather have 'em over
when there's a more relaxed atmosphere, rather than me trying to kick
ass over tea cozy and getting even more stressed. I have enough stress
in my life, thank you Derwood.
I do need to do some more work on the shed. I need to add the attic door
so that I can put some of the longer materials (conduit, leftover siding
and soffit vents, etc.) that are now conspiring to clutter up the yard.
It's what I built the damn shed for in the first place.
Dammit, I really need another me to do some of this stuff while I
get to work on the front porch. I know what needs to be done and I know
the way that I want it done, I just don't have time to do it all in a
timely fashion.
There is still a lot of manual-ish labor that needs to be done.
Shoveling and screening dirt, moving the concrete blocks when I finally
have 'em delivered, cutting up wood with a circular saw into
firewood-sized chunks, that kind of thing. I may decide to move the
shed, although that may well wait until later should I decide to place a
garage on the lot. I don't think I want to move that shed a lot, though
I did make it so that it would be portable if necessary. It's just
heavy.
I'm kind of holding off with the materials for the porch right now
because I have yet to start getting paychecks from work, and I'm wanting
to make sure I can still pay bills and stuff. I'm not destitute or
anything, I'm just being cautious.
And it looks like I'll have a roommate for a bit. A friend is going to
France for the summer, and rather than pay for a full month's rent for
June, she's going to brave the Big Broken Box(tm) for a few weeks, and
probably stay for a while after she gets back in the fall.
Oh, my.
