Ran into an issue with my editing system last night that cascaded into a bit of ugliness and discovery.
I've known that my video capture card has been obsoleted and is no longer supported by the company. And I've known that I was gonna have to upgrade at some point, probably when I started getting into longer-form editing.
Well, last night it showed up. Audio out of sync with video in a longer-form project. I know what the solution is; basically a new caqpture card. So today I went to the website for my NLE software to see what capture cards I could consider.
It wasn't there.
Apparently, the company collapsed and went out of business in a relatively short period of time-- pretty much while I was down in Iowa-- and I'm pretty much SOL.
What it means is that I'm pretty much at square one with looking for an upgrade. Consider the earlier post where I was looking for a new camera and along came the new Panasonic HD unit. I'm looking at upgrading the camera, the NLE system... pretty much everything.
After some investigation, I've kind of entered orbit around Avid Express Pro HD with the mojo. This actually covers all of my bases expanding from my old camera into the new one with only a little bit of shedding. I get to retain my investment in BorisFX, still get to use my existing camera and deck but when I expand to the new HD rig, it requuires no change AND I can edit HD in realtime and still see it on my SD monitor.
The serious bitch is they have a sale happening that ends TOMORROW.
I could buy it today, but it would seriously crimp CONvergence spending, and make for a tight budget over the next couple of months when I really need to be fixing the house. I have to do the responsible thing and wait.
Being responsible sucks.
On a brighter note, I'm glad to hear that Wendy is doing okay. There will be much hugging later.
