Sonorous

There are few things I like more than laying in bed sweating.

No, wait. There are *plenty* of things I like more than laying in bed sweating.

Kee-rist, last night was brutal. I was freaking exhausted all day (and yeah, I took the day off), and decided to nap around 5:00. Woke up at 8:00 feeling even more tired, and like I was coated with grease. Ugh. Got some cold food (peppers and cherries) and went into the living room to talk to Barb.

Mistake.

She wanted to talk about the Convergence video. Bear in mind that someone else is doing it, and I have plenty of other stuff going on, but she wants me to get involved on a level that I am not comfortable with.

1.) She has offered to provide equipment to them without asking me about it first. I'm a little miffed at her for that.
2.) She started off by asking me "what kind of" lights we have. When I started telling her, she asked me if we have any "spotlights". Considering there are a lot of different kinds of spotlights, I asked her what kind, then she started telling me about the lights that the video company wanted to use. This eventually led into an argument where she wanted me to call them up and tell them they were wrong in how they were planning to use the lights.

In the first place, if they have a video production company, they already have someone who does their lighting.
Second, lighting is a very artistic thing, and there are different styles. For me to call up and say "hey, you're doing it wrong" is not only downright rude, it's insulting.
Third, I am not about to be roped in to becoming a DP at the convention. I am not working at the convention this year, dammit.

Okay, I was cranky to begin with, but I got even more cranky.

Then she wanted to talk about the project from hell.

She wanted to know if I had plnned to do something a certain way.
No, I had not.
Why not?
Because it would be a lot more work.
How much more work?
I don't know offhand. A lot.
Well, could I do it?
Yes, I could, but I'd rather not, as it would be a lot more work, and I'm already running short of time.
But it would be a lot cooler if you'd do it this way.

<snap.>

Okay, fine, I'll do it your way.
Why do you do that?
Do what?
Just tell me yes, like you're...
Acquiescing?
Yes.
What would you rather I do?
I'd rather that you do it because you think it's a good idea, not just to appease me.

<this pattern repeats two more times for different aspects of the project.>

The problem is that I don't think it's a good idea. It makes things unnecessarily complex and difficult for me, and the presentation becomes more inconsistent and muddy instead of cleaner.

So she insults me. Tells me she never wants to work with me again.

I say fine, and go to bed.

Then I can't get to sleep because of the fucking humidity. Today I am half brain-dead and exhausted, and still cranky.

But you know, this is a pattern I've recognized with Barb. When the project is starting to come into it's final stages, she tends to find ways to complicate it. Seems to happen about two weeks before the final date. I've seen this on several projects of various kinds. I should learn to anticipate it.

<b>Gutter update:</b>
Three down, one to go. Pity that it is to be raining, as I'm supposed to have them done by Wednesday night, and I don't think it's gonna happen. Saturday got bad-- by about 4:00, my legs were shaking so bad I couldn't continue. And really, it will get done. I don't need to risk my safety by climbing up and down a ladder in the rain.
Besides, I have a lot of little cuts and bruises that I'd really like to give a chance to heal.

I can help in little ways and scurry up ladders like a squirrel on crack so...just hollar if you need help. I'll work for company while I scurry. :)
