Finished getting the sill plate installed today. Since it was after 5:00 by the time I got the whole thing bolted down, I decided to prep the walls of the house for the new porch walls, which meant ripping the old plaster off the house wall enough to fit a 6" wide post in place.

Underneath the plaster, it was held on with furring strips (basically wood lath) over tarpaper. The furring strips were rotted, which was pretty expected. Unfortunately the tarpaper had deteriorated in a few places, and some of the sheathing is rotten too.

I have to replace those pieces before I can put up the walls. Grar.
