Noodleboggin'.

New work location today. Took some finding since it's a bit in the swampy part of the industrial area between 62 & 494, west of 169 and just off of Valley View. Tucked back in the back of an industrial strip mall.

My cube is now an 8x8, instead of the 7x8 that I had before, and I'm sort of tucked away in the rear end of the building, close by an unused exit door that is a little cold-- I'm currently wearing my jacket in a valiant effort to stay warm.

Today is pretty much filled with unpacking and getting stuff set up and somewhat organized. It's kinda cool, but it's pretty obvious that I'm gonna need something in the way of music or something to get rid of the noise. I'm right next to the production area, and there is no insulation in the walls.

Work on the porch is pretty much at a standstill for now because of the snow. Go figure.

It's pretty much like any other commercial/industrial space, except right now it's noisy as hell.

After today I've vowed never to interview in Eden Prairie again. In my, what, eight years in the Twin Cities I have never, ever had an interview go well in that neck of the woods.

This is how the universe says "No, we don't want you here."

Weird! We were in the same neck of the woods today. I interviewed with a company there today. It was the last on my list that I had prior to my offer, so I figured I'd do it.

I'm glad I did. It made my current offer seem even sweeter.

Oh, and for the record, that Cinema-related job passed on me...and all of the other writers that they sent their way. Smooth, guys.

Because they can get someone so much better for so much less...

Idioce.

With how openly hostile that workplace was, I suspect that they have a specific person they already want for the position, but they needed to do the dog-and-pony candidate show for the home office.

Meanwhile, I just filled out an assload of paperwork for my new consulting firm to be an "employee" for them. Also peed in a cup. But hey! At least I have to wear a suit jacket and tie into work every day now.

I'll adjust.

Peeing in a cup is an occasional downside. I tended to hate it after a while because it's demeaning.

"Hey, we really like your work, we think it's fabulous. Now we'd like you to pee in this cup to prove to us that you're not stoned out of your gourd or a crackhead."

"Um, hey, if I were stoned out of my gourd or a crackhead but I still managed to do impressive work, would it really matter?"

"Of course it would matter. It would be like stealing from the company!"

"How exactly would it be stealing from the company if I'm doing what you've asked me to do?"

"We're not sure we like your attitude. Stop asking questions and pee in this cup."

Demeaning.

Yeah. That's a good word for the job search experience these days.

I'm dealing with a looooot of guilt lately. Guilt about leaving my job at Acxiom in 2004 (easily the cushiest, best-paying job I've ever had) because I was bored, guilt about wasting this past summer with the kids because of the movie, guilt because I won't be around as much for a while because I'll be on the bus two hours a day, plus working forty hours a week...

I'm happy I have a job, but I'm not to crazy about the change in my lifestyle that comes with it.

Strange, I too work west of 169, north of 494, south of 62, a bit off of Valley View...

I'm on Golden Triangle Drive, just a bit north of Viking Dr...

It is a small technology world...

You know where valley view and Golden Triangle split? I'm right off of there.

Literally in the swamp.

More like a half-mile. Northwest of you, where valley view splits off of Golden Triangle.

Oh, ick. That's were Starkey is located. I hated that location. While there were some amenities being near interesting lunch options at EP mall, I loathed the commute. Coming home each day I ended up taking Valley View > Valley Way (or something) > 66th > Cedar/77 > 28th > home.
